Look at this Kate Sculpture. Just look at it!

Kate Sculpture by Alex Brugnera

I got an email from my Brazilian friend Alex Brugnera, who you may remember did those wonderful colorized PS pages in the Gift Art Gallery. (What? You haven’t seen them? Go! Look!) He sent me this:

Not long afterward, he contacted me and offered to send her to me. I was floored.

I just got her in the mail today, and she is amazing!

It captures Kate in mid-transformation and somehow manages to be cute and creepy at the same time. Look at the detail!

Alex, I can’t thank you enough. You are incredibly generous, and I’m grateful for all the time and effort you’ve put into creating wonderful pieces. I’m humbled that you were inspired by my comics.

Muito obrigado!

Edit: I just realized Alex posted a tutorial on how he created this on his dA account. It was originally inspired by this early concept sketch.

Look who came to visit me in NY!

She’s a long way from Chicago, but hey!

"Don't. Just don't."

Chowing down on some beef jerky.

"What?"

"Don't. Just don't."

My friend Michele came and helped out at the con, and dressed up as Kate on Saturday! She walked up and said, “You draw me like such a bitch! What the hell? Seriously, I’m not that tall!”

Thanks for the help and the costume, Michele! You made an awesome Kate!

Anime Boston: A Huge Success!

The kickoff to my book tour at Anime Boston was loads of fun and a smashing success! I broke a sales record, selling over 100 books for the first time in a single weekend. The new prints went over very well, too.

This year I was accompanied by my friend Ellen, who helped out at the table and was an excellent assistant. In another first, she also cosplayed as Kate on Saturday! She even attempted the crazy bangs for that totally 80′s styling:

Ellen cosplaying as Kate. Armed and dangerous.Attitude? Check.

Awesome! Thank you so much again, Ellen! You were a great help, and your costumes were wonderful!

I also had a fantastic time hanging out with Brion Foulke & Jen Brazas, Shannon & Rich Townsend and Dave Lister while they crashed at my place. And on Saturday night we got together with fellow comickers Zack Giallongo, Steph Yue, Shelli Paroline, Braden Lamb, Stevie Wilson, Beatriz Bravo, and Pat Lapierre for dinner where we recreated The Last Supper:

All in all this weekend was a tremendous start to this month of conventions. I’m really looking forward to the rest of them.

Next up: Tekkoshocon!
