Most maulings tend to be the work of feral or attack dogs (quite often the much-maligned pit bull). Back in 2002, in a forest preserve south of the city, there were several attacks by a group of wild dogs. Usually, Animal Control officers locate the offending animal and destroy it. However, in the cases where the animal has an owner, charges of manslaughter are also filed if the owner is found to be negligent.
