Originally, this scene was going to take place at the old Chicago Police HQ downtown (it has since been torn down and moved south), but after taking pictures of the site I wasn’t satisfied with the institutional feel of the building.

After some research I discovered the Lakeview District 23 building which has much more character. I also learned that Chicago detectives are assigned to four major quadrants of the city—Downtown, South Side, North Side and West Side. I decided to assign Kate and Mike to the North Side at the Lakeview Station house.

They get into trouble later for wandering outside their immediate jurisdiction.
