Well, I arrived in SF yesterday with Ryan, and we met with Shaenon for lunch at this awesome Chinese place called The House of Nanking. Amazing. We just had the owner ‘take care of us’, and what a fantastic meal it ended up being. Then it was off to the Cartoon Art Museum with Shaenon to peruse the wonders of my favorite medium. I love the cartoons from the early 20th century! The characters were so filled with life.
Afterwards, we headed out to Isotope, a comics lounge in the area known as ‘The Boulevards’. It was out away from the downtown area, and Shaenon had never been, so we drove. We got a bit turned around, but we managed to find it — and boy am I glad we did! We met the owner and chatted. He even took some copies of PS off my hands, so if you’re in the SF area and you want a book, you can pick up a signed copy at Isotope! Thanks again, James! I hope we can chat later this week!
Had dinner at ‘The Stinking Rose’ and met up with my friend from Chicago, Jason, whom I’m staying with for the week. After some logistics transferring all my travelling crap over to him, I went to Art Night. It was great to see everybody so soon after the con to just draw (although I was working on some paid illustrations and not comics), but a great time.
Then, when Jason and his roommate came to pick me up, we trekked up Telegraph Hill to see Coit Tower, despite the late hour. Great veiw of the city from up there. Awesome. Then it was back to the apartment to crash…
Anyway, great first day here. I had to finish up my illustration work this morning, but now I’m going out to eat and see the sights.
