I’m sure a good number of you who’ve been visiting the site over the past few months have been wondering where the comic updates are. It’s not a simple answer, but the short answer boils down to this: I’ve been getting my crap together.
As some of you already know, I freelance to make a living and lately I’ve had to regroup. I got behind in promoting my work, and now I’m having to catch-up in order to get enough business in order to get on my feet. That’s why I’m working on the second website, as just one angle to start promoting my freelance business the way I should have been all along. I’m also getting ready to send portfolio pieces to various ad agencies, animation groups, magazines, newspapers, etc, in order to drum up more work. My goal is to have this all taken care of by the end of the month.
So, what does this have to do with PS? Everything. The reason I drop off the face of the earth every so often is usually because I’m running out of money, and I’m scrambling to find a way to fix that. However, when things are going good, then I have time and energy to devote to the comic. These past few years I’ve done a poor job at balancing these two things, and I’m working to correct that for good. If I can begin to bring in more illustration and design work and get my cash flow moving in a positive direction for longer than a couple months at a time, I’ll be able to devote regular time to the comic. But, the only way to do this is to get my work out there. My comics represent some of my strongest work, but I still need to take the time to properly market myself if I have any hope of generating regular income.
Also, I’m getting to the point where I need to get my book into stores. This means an offset print run. My margins are just too tight using Print-on-Demand to make it possible to that as it’s currently set up. I’ll need to work on a business plan if I want to make that happen, though. With any luck, it can be a reality by the end of the year.
Anyway, to make a long story short, I’m working on it, and I should be in a position to start working on the comic again on a regular basis soon — maybe by the end of the month if things go well. I’ll keep you posted, but in the meantime, thank you so much for your patience, your support, and your suggestions.
