Connecticon 2012 – What fun!

I just wanted to let everyone know how much fun I had at Connecticon this year. This was the first time since 2002 I did not attend the San Diego Comic-Con, and I am so glad I ended up in Hartford instead this year. One of the benefits is that I’m not so incredibly exhausted this week that I actually have the energy to make a big post! Woohoo!

I had an amazing time, and got to catch up with some old friends like my buddy, the talented Michele Reznik and meet some new ones, like Kern, for instance, of Drowtales’ fame who just graced me with this amazing piece of Gift Art:

I am not worthy. Thank you, Kern!

Had a super fantastic time at Super Art Fight on Saturday night. Despite starting about an hour and half late due to Masquerade Dramaâ„¢, we ended up having an amazing show – one of our best ever! I was in the second tag team match, fighting with O Abnormal against the formidable H. Caldwell Tanner and Atomic Robo’s own Scott Wegner, in his debut match. It was amazing. O drew on my head. There were stars. And moobs. You had to be there.

Michele and I camped out at our booth, but made time to wander about and see at least a little of the show. We both pick up Ananth and Yuko’s second Johnny Wander book, and chatted with friends old and new.

I have to extend a special thank you to Eric Menge, of Snow by Night for covering for me at the “Business of Art & Comics” panel on Friday. I got swept up in a convention time vortex that didn’t spit me out until after the panel had already come and gone. My sincerest apologies to everyone who came to the panel and missed me. I will do my best to make sure that doesn’t happen again in the future. Eric, you’re a rock star. Thanks for being the hero this weekend.

Do me a big favor guys, and go check out his wonderful comic.

Some of the other highlights of the con:

photoshop-and-illustrator

These were my favorite costumes all weekend. I live in Photoshop pretty much all day, every day, and I’ve used both of them since, like, version 2.0 in the early ’90s. I just upgraded to CS6, but I’ve been using CS3 for years.

Photoshop, Illustrator, you made my day. I 3> you guys. =)

Here are some more of the fantastic costumes we around the convention:

Every time I see Andrei Lukanov at a show, I draw something in one of his sketchbooks, and he wows me with a piece of gift art even better piece than the last.

Here I am drawing in Andrei’s sketchbook. I did so many drawings of Ghost in the Shell’s Major Kusanagi as a part of the Daily Drawing studies, I just *had* to do some fan art for real. I need to get him to send me a couple of the finished drawing. It was fun!

Here’s what he gave me this time!

Lastly, Team Four-Star’s own Curtis Arnott also graciously allowed me to try on his Internet Heavyweight Champion belt. It was heavy, indeed!

Had a great time hanging out with you gents. Sorry I missed the party. Next time.

Thank you to everyone who made time to come by our booth and say hello. You guys are the best. I had some great conversations with many of you, and you always make it worth the trip. Your support is what makes all of this possible.

And thanks once again to Connecticon for inviting me out to the show! I had a great time. I look forward to doing it again sometime.
