Ineptitude to the nth power!

I started another picture in photoshop. Remembered to do it at 300 DPI this time! I am really, REALLY happy with how the anatomy and perspective is turning out. It's unlikely that it's flawless, but it seems to be a considerable improvement over my typical work. Also, the background is not an indiscriminate assault on your retinas this time!

I'm aware that the image is a little empty on the left side... I need to balance it out a bit better, I think. Damnit, I don't know enough about composition...

I am WAY too tired to be dragging out my commentary any further... not without running the risk of saying something retarded. It's very much a work in progress, so critiques and suggestions are much appreciated.

I finished.

I like the colouring setup I used. It doesn't look particularily bad, and it was fairly fast to apply.

Good work.  I like the lighting and the blue-ranging palette.

I had very little to do at work today, and there were pens sitting on my desk, so I picked them up and started drawing.  Made another stab at the character I was working on a while back, somewhere up this thread.

Considering that I've never drawn with pen, I was expecting to have to start over a lot more than I did.

I scrounged up a couple more colored pens and did some more work on yesterday's drawing.

I'm not very happy with the mouth.  I worried it too much, so the lines are too heavy.  >_<

Personally, I try to keep lips as minimalistic as possible, to avoid having them look retarded. Lips, like feet, do not treat me kindly.

I say do a character sheet, it's good exercise, both concept and "art-chops" wise... six in a row, thick-lipped, thin-lipped, big-eared, small-eared, elf-eared, eyes masked, mouth masked... once you have  one you like, hit it again! Then do a new drawing and repeat... and repeat... and repeat...

Perhaps not of the highest quality, but I had a ridiculous amount of fun writing, voicing, and animating this. This is for a presentation in my games course, and all my classmates (as well as the visiting designers from Bioware!) told me to put it up on YouTube.

So here it is.

For a first animation, it's not too bad.

That's really cool!  Nice job, especially for a first stab at animation.

Fun stuff.

Instead of putting another huge image on the page, I'll just link to the DA page.

I tried taking my new lighting technique a bit farther with multiple light sources, and messed around with depicting the huge height difference between the characters. Background isn't done yet, I'm really regreting not working that in from the start.

Anyone notice anything really off? In particular, did I goof on anything anatomy or composition?

I tell my students to never EVER place a character's feet on the bottom edge of a page; bad composition and bad form for so many reasons. It totally eliminates any semblance of 3 dimensional space. It destroys visual perspective. It is something that all beginners do and should be dissuaded from...

This is the month of never dying forum threads. I always think of them as temporary forms of communication, lost and forgotten minutes after being posted. But here I am updating another ANCIENT thread.

Got another Angelrium remake en route before Christmas, here's the near finished WIP. If you see anything amiss, please let me know.

I'll tell you what looks amiss! He's got magma in his gut, he's breathing fire, his pelvis is oversized and made of STEEL, he's got bolt things in his arm, and...

...oh, right, demon. Carry on! Smiley

Thanks, Kurt. I badly misjudged my space in the initial sketch and it never occured to me to just extend the canvas and fix the error. That should be an easy change, thankfully. [Edit:] Updated the art. Thanks for the input.

Quick reference sheet I made for myself of a creature called an "Orgo":

I put more information about the creature on the DA page if anyone is interested.
