COOL!!  I love to see how people interpret my characters.  Good job on Kate's hair.  You pretty much have the idea.

Saber-- I've really been enjoying seeing your work progress since you started posting on Spike's forum in the way back.  You should post some linkage to your comic.  Maybe I should start up a 'pimp yer stuff' thread, come to think of it.

Heh thanks, but a link to my comic wouldn't really serve much purpose since it still doesn't exist yet.  I have been putting together a pretty big collection of concept art all concerning the, er, elite cyborg police units of my post-apocalypse, but here is a sketch I just can't resist tossing up in advance.  It is of the Flashpoint Armor.

Dirk: It took about 10-15 hours i think. The scrollwork stuff took the longest. The inking didn't take long because it is terrible.

starstriker1: I've been getting that a lot on this. I don't see it, because it is sloppy. But I also stared at it for a long time. So I'm not very impartial.

really it was just an experiment in coloring in photoshop, I've never used this technique before. it was fun.

It's very good work.  I thought it was a photograph at first glance, too.  The reason it gives that impression is your handling of the light.  It's very convincing.  It doesn't matter if the ink work is sloppy in the end.  Besides, that's pretty subjective.  Precision isn't everything, after all.  There are plenty of masterful artists who haven't had exactly precise pen or brushwork, but their artwork stands out because it works as a whole.

Saberinblue: I really like that profile sketch. It has a lot of personality in not so many lines.

Or maybe I'm just a sucker for freckles.

Thanks, that's a character I'm very fond of.  I think there aren't enough people in comics with freckles.

Messing about with different styles of colouring and shading to use in my comic, with varying degrees of success. Thoughts?

What software are you using? If you are using Photoshop, copy and paste the "CLEANED INKS" into (on top of) the others as a layer and change it's mode of application to "Multiply". This will apply the line cleanly to the other pieces. It looks like you already have done it that way for the "FLAT COLOURS"... if so, you already know...

You're correct, I'm already doing that. I got rid of the inks from the painting pieces, as they just look better without.
