Hands vs. Paws Study

Author's Notes:

This study was inspired back in 2002 after examining the little paws of a friend’s pet ferret, “Cocoapuff,” which gave me some new ideas on a hand/paw hybrid design. I then did a direct anatomical comparison between human hand and werewolf paw using similar gestures.

Note that in canines and other carnivore mammals (specifically from the family Carnivora), the fingertip bone is dedicated to being the root of the claw, and the “finger” pad extends into the the underside of the second knuckle. This would mean making a fist would be tricky indeed, since the final finger joint would be pointing outward.
