5.20.2009 @ 7:24 am - Quick update…
Thanks, guys. I’m finally moved in, but the internet isn’t hooked up yet. I’m currently at the mercy of my neighbor’s wireless… I’ll post an update when I can.
3.29.2009 @ 6:13 pm - Another review - Nice.
This review popped up on my Google Alerts. Reminds me why all this work is well worth it.
Thanks a heap!
In other news. We just bought a house. My mind reels…!
3.5.2009 @ 10:14 am - Blog updated
Had to make an emergency upgrade to Wordpress 2.7 this morning. Blog should be functional again. Sorry I didn’t notice this sooner.
@ 8:51 am - Update from the trenches…
So, gang. It’s been way too long since I posted. Since my last communique, there’s been a ton of news, all of which has kept me busy enough to keep me away from the blog.
First up, the really good news. Emily and I are buying a house! We’ve found a cute little place not a half a mile from our apartment, so the location is perfect. It’s old, but in great shape, and it’s just right for us. Best of all is that it comes in well under our budget, so we’ll actually be able to afford it comfortably. It will need a little work before we move in, but mostly just cosmetic changes. So, we’ll be spending most of April pulling down wallpaper, painting, replace some floors and getting things ready to move in. All the paperwork is finished, and we close at the end of the month.
It’s all very, very exciting. I had no idea how much before this happened, in fact. It’s kinda like falling in love. It’s crazy.
This does mean I’ll have to dismantle the studio, and most likely will be taking about a month off to work on the House and the move. Good news is I’m currently building up my buffer to carry me through the month and a little beyond. So, this will mean no skipped PS updates. Beyond that, I’m madly trying to pencil ahead as much as I can before the end of the month. It’s going well so far.
Next some bad news and good news. The bad news is, as with many indy comic publishers, I got dropped from Diamond in the big deluge this winter. It had me down for awhile. However, the good news is that Haven has graciously picked up PS Volumes 1 & 2, so I’m picking up where I left off in the comics market. I’ll get links to their catalog as soon as I have them, but if you happen to be at your local comic store, ask them to order a copy of the books! I’d be grateful. I don’t have quite as much time as I’d like to do much marketing before finishing Part Three, but I do plan to hit it hard come summer once it’s off the printers.
Which brings me to an update on Part Three. As I said, it’s coming along, but it’s proving to be longer than I’d originally planned. It’s clocking in at 125 pages as opposed to the original 100-110 pages. This means it’s going to take me probably until at least mid-June to get the artwork complete. Sadly, this means no Part Three for ACEN this year. I know this is a disappointment, but I promise you it will be worth the wait. I’m just pencilling Page99 today, and it’s kicked into high gear from here all the way to the end. If I have any hope of getting books back in time for San Diego, I’m going to need to chain myself to the drawing table every moment I’m not working on the House. This means probably not alot of blogging. However, I have started up a Twitter account, so I’ll be posting there from time to time — it’s easier to muster a sentence here and there than many paragraphs.
Lastly, I’m firming up my convention schedule for the rest of the year. Sorry I had to pull out so suddenly this winter. It couldn’t be helped, as I wasn’t expecting to suddenly be buying a house. However, I can definitely confirm I will be at ACEN and San Diego. I will also be attending the New England Webcomics Weekend this month in Northampton, MA. I will most likely also be attending Otakon, Connection, and Wizard World Chicago, as well. More as I get things planned.
That’s about it. I’ll get more updates as I can, and make sure you check out the new pages on Tuesdays. They’re only going to get more exciting from here on out.
1.30.2009 @ 8:31 am - Clearing my calendar…
I should have posted this yesterday, but I’ve been distracted by Real Life Events* (Good!) happening this week.
Firstly, my apologies to my fans going to Ohayocon this weekend. I’m afraid I had to cancel my appearance there at the last minute due to the weather. At nearly 14 hours, the drive from Boston to Columbus was already a long trip to attempt solo and required staying overnight in Pittsburgh both ways. However, between a snowstorm here and predictions of snow in Pennsylvania on my return trip on Monday, I decided that discretion was the better part of valor. I’ll miss seeing you all this weekend, but I will be back that way again later in the year.
I had also planned to go to New York Comic-con as an attendee, and had been slated to appear as a guest at Anime St. Louis at the end of March but I will not be attending either, now.
I have been looking at my schedule in general, and I realize that if I have any hope at all in finishing Part Three in time for the convention season this spring/summer, I need to hunker down and produce. The book is proving to be longer than I originally planned, and it’s going to require a few of months of solid work to complete. The economy being what it is, there aren’t many other projects getting in the way at the moment, but carving time out and spending money to travel to cons just isn’t going to make sense until I have Part Three in hand. As a result, I’m not going to be attending any more events between now and Anime Central in May. Depending on how the aforementioned Real Life Events go, I may or may not have Part Three ready for ACEN in any case. So I warn you now.
*More news to come later.
12.3.2008 @ 9:42 am - HEROES Update - Look, ma! I’m on TV!
Okay, so after the fleeting glimpse of some of my work on HEROES two weeks ago, and a complete no-show last week, I had given up that we’d be seeing anything on camera.
However, after some prompting from my folks, I sat down to see this week’s episode, and whaddya know? Lo an behold, there it was! It’s a little fuzzy, but it’s unmistakably the cover of Part One.
SUCCESS!
11.18.2008 @ 8:37 am - HEROES?
Last night saw my big debut on national television. I’ve finally seen the episode, and here’s the good news — I did actually make it on camera. The bad news is, it’s way in the background, and you’d be forgiven if you missed it.
The comic book shop scene made two appearances in the episode, but I had to go back and review each shot to see if anything made it, and upon closer inspection, I found it hidden in a one shot. It’s about what I expected it to be — nothing more than a blur in the background.
However, there’s two more episodes apparently, where the comic shop appears, so perhaps we’ll catch a better glimpse, yet. I’ll not give it hope quite yet.
11.17.2008 @ 9:51 am - Anyone here watch ‘HEROES’?
Even if you don’t, you might want to check out tonight’s episode on NBC. You might notice some familiar artwork in the background.
Seriously, though. I’ve been keeping mum about this for a few months, now, but one of the cool things that came out of San Diego this year was that a production designer from NBC’s ‘HEROES’ came by my table and expressed interest in my artwork. Long story short, they ended up buying 100 books from me and made some posters of the covers to use as set decoration for a comic shop scene that’s apparently airing tonight, and for the next couple of weeks. I’m not sure how much is actually going to appear on camera, but I’m looking forward to seeing for sure, now.
Trouble is, I don’t have cable, and the reception at our place is terrible, so I’ll probably have to catch the episode online via HULU or Netflix later in the week. If anyone happens to catch the episode tonight, please let me know if you see anything!
UPDATE: Also, there’s a new podcast on TalkAboutComics where I’m interviewed about this.
